Obituary for Darlene (Nelson) Gotto
Darlene (Nelson) Gotto, 77, of Ute, Iowa died Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa. The funeral service will be Friday, November 20 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Ute with Pastor Marcus Manley officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Visitation will be at the church Thursday after 5:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Armstrong Funeral Home of Ute has been entrusted with the arrangements and the family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com.


Darlene Bertha (Nelson) Gotto was born November 28. 1937, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Bertha (Kroeger) Petersen. In 1956, she married Dale Nelson. Together they had five children. Darlene helped her husband, Dale, in their farming operation. She also worked in nursing homes in the area for 40 years as a nurses aid and later as a med aid. Dale passed away in 1988.
Darlene was married to Leonard Gotto in 1989 and they lived happily until his death in 2006.
Along with her career in the nursing field, she loved to sew, garden, and cook for a local hunting guide and their hunters.
She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Ute and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Darlene is survived by three children, Dennis Nelson of Ute, Iowa, Daniel Nelson of Seattle, Washington, and Debra (Nelson) Vann of Denver, Colorado; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her two brothers, Don Petersen and Darrell Petersen, both of Ute, Iowa; and a sister, Dorothy (Petersen) Treft of Perry, Iowa.
Darlene was preceded in death by both parents; her husbands, Dale Nelson and Leonard Gotto; two grandchildren, Beverly and Donald Nelson; a great grandchild, Janice Darlene Nelson; two sisters-in-law, Sheryl Petersen and Shirley Petersen; and one brother-in-law, Duane Treft.
