Obituary for Darlene Mae Christiansen
Darlene Mae Christiansen, 82, of Mapleton, Iowa (formerly of Ute, Iowa), passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the Burgess Memorial Hospital of Onawa, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ute, Iowa. Pastor Kirk Manchester will officiate; Committal Services will follow in the St. Clair Township Cemetery of Ute, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, July 17, 2017, at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Homes of Ute, Iowa. Darlene Mae (Hopkins) Christiansen the daughter of Clarence and Ellen (Hayes) Hopkins, was born on April 1, 1935, on a farm near Mapleton, IA, and was an only child. She grew up in Ute, Iowa, and graduated from Ute High School with the class of 1954.
Darlene and Henry L. Christiansen, Jr. were united in marriage on August 21, 1955, in Ute, Iowa. The couple lived in Mapleton for a time but resided at Ute most of their married life. Darlene and Hank were blessed with three sons Henry L. lll, Allan R. and Lorne D.
Darlene worked in Omaha for about a year before she married Hank. She then worked in Sioux City, and at Westendorf’s in Onawa. Darlene was employed at Maple Heights Nursing Home for 19 years.
Darlene was a faithful member of the Ute United Methodist Church. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening and sewing. Darlene also enjoyed playing cards/games and spending time with her family; especially her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Darlene moved to Maple Heights Nursing Home November 1, 2013, due to health issues.
Those left to treasure her memories are her sons Henry lll (Denise) Christiansen of Jefferson, IA, Allan (Christine) Christiansen of Ute, IA, and Lorne (Brenda) Christiansen of Ute, IA; five grandchildren Brittany Christiansen of Mapleton, IA, Ashley (John) Cooke of Jefferson, IA, Andrew Christiansen, Ashton Christiansen (Fiancé Jeremy Peterson of Alta, IA), and Aric Christiansen all of Ute, IA; great-grandchildren Brenner Jung of Mapleton, IA, Claire Cooke and Madison Cooke of Jefferson, IA; extended family and friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Ellen Hopkins; husband Henry “Hank” Christiansen; and granddaughter Amanda Christiansen.
