Obituary for Dale "Tony" Bolles
The family requests donations to McNiff Post #389 of Anthon in lieu of flowers, please. Vernon Dale "Tony" Bolles was born to Asher and Gladys (Livermore) Bolles in Anthon, Iowa. An Anthon boy his entire life, he attended country school before going to school in Anthon through the 8th grade. At that time he quit to help his dad on the farm full-time. On February 18, 1952, Tony enlisted in the Army and served just under 2 years, receiving his honorable discharge on February 11, 1954. He was a cook at Okinawa during the Korean War. Dale and his sweetheart, Carol Larson were united in marriage on February 20, 1954, in Smithland. He continued the career he so loved, farming. At times he worked at the John Deere store and in Mark Groth's store, both in Anthon. Dale was very active in the McNiff Legion Post. Along with holding various offices, he was involved with the feather parties and later with Bingo. He was an integral part of locating and memorializing the site west of Anthon where a bomber plane had gone down during the war; families of the deceased on the plane were very thankful for Dale's persistence in finding the crash site. Tony also volunteered his time as a chauffeur for family and friends who needed a ride to their appointments or just to go downtown for errands. He was a true go-getter and loved helping others. His greatest love was for his family, spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and the "Greats." He was notorious for his jokes. Survivors left to fondly remember Tony are is wife of 59 years, Carol; his sons, Craig (Lesly) of Sioux City, IA, and Paul (Pam) of Prairie City, IA; his daughter, Carmel Harrell of San Jose, CA; 9 grandchildren, Keri (Jimmy), Jenni (Ben), Patti (Josh), Tony (Alissa), Scott (Suzanne), Candi (Ryan), Jason (Kim), Jessica, and Jared (Melissa); 12 Greats, Alex, Allivia, Hallie, Spudd, Reese, Riley, Treyton, Piper, Makynli, Cruz, Logan, and Harper; and 3 sisters, Shirley Downing, Jeanette Cavin, and Irene Hair. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas Patrick Bolles, and a sister, Velma Newman.
