Dale Leroy Savery, the son of Roy and Mabel (Torgesen) Savery, was born December 27, 1931, in Moorhead, Iowa. Dale was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended country school in rural Soldier, IA. After school, he began farming.
On September 12, 1954, Dale was united in marriage to Virgia Johnson in the Moorhead Lutheran Church. Dale enlisted into the U.S. Army after their marriage and was stationed in Germany as a tank mechanic. During that time their first son, Don, was born. Upon his honorable discharge, Dale returned home to Soldier, IA, to continue farming and raise his growing family which included the addition of two more sons: Jeff and Gregg.
