Obituary for Creta M. Teut
Creta M. Teut, age 90, of Ute, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at her residence of Ute, Iowa.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., with a visitation held one hour prior from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., on Monday, January 31, 2022, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ute, Iowa. Rev. Nathan Peitsch will officiate. Committal services will follow in the St. Clair Township Cemetery of Ute, Iowa. Military Rites will be conducted by the Aaby Post No. 442 of the American Legion and VFW Post No. 5605 of Ute, Iowa.

Creta Marie (DeWoody) Teut was born on August 30, 1931, in Oil City, Pennsylvania, to Carl Henry and Charlotte Ann (Lauffer) DeWoody. She graduated from public school in Butler, Pennsylvania, then went on to graduate with honors from St. Margaret Episcopal School of Nursing in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, in 1952. Creta then attended the University of Pittsburg where she pursued a degree in Nursing Education. In 1956 she enlisted for two years in the United States Air Force and served at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, where she met the love of her life, Eldon Teut. They were married on July 19, 1957, in Idaho. After serving her country Creta served as Head Nurse of Pediatrics at University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. In 1960 the couple moved to the Ute, Iowa, area where they farmed for 35 years. They remained on the farm until 2001 when they moved into the town of Ute.
Creta so enjoyed music and sharing her faith through music that she served as organist at the Episcopal Church in Butler, Pennsylvania, at the hospital in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and for 35 years at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. She also sang in the choir and the “Spirit Singers Cantata”. Other activities Creta enjoyed were being a member of the Legion Auxiliary, LCW/LWML, and Camp Okoboji Auxiliary Board.
Creta served on the nursing staff at the Crawford County Hospital, Eventide, and Maple Heights Nursing Home, and was an EMT-1 on the Ute Ambulance Service for 14 years.
She is survived by her children: Carla Teut of Horseshoe Bend, AK; Mark (Cheryl) Teut of Sumterville, FL; Todd Teut of Ute, IA; and Jean Berg of Kiron, IA; sister Carol Higgins of Mansfield, CT; many grandchildren & great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
Creta was proceeded in death by her parents Carl and Charlotte De Woody; husband Eldon; son Paul Teut; granddaughter Samantha Berg; son-in-law Leonard Berg; brother-in-law Warren Higgins; and sister Catherine and her husband Norman Williams.
Creta lived a life of service to God and her fellow man. She always said, “In God’s time, this too shall pass.”
