Obituary for Catherine Rose Hartigan
Catherine Rose Hartigan Ute, Iowa - Catherine Rose Hartigan, 92, of Ute, Iowa died Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa. The funeral Mass will be Monday, December 29, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ute with Rev. Tim Bockelman officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to the Funeral Mass at the church. Armstrong Funeral Home of Ute is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences are being accepted on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Catherine Rose Hartigan was born October 16, 1922, in rural Ute, Iowa, the daughter of James S. and Mamie (Kavanagh) Hartigan. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ute. She graduated from Ute High School with the class of 1939. When Catherine's father took a job in Washington, D.C., the family moved there. Catherine took evening classes in college and earned her degree in Elementary Education. She was employed, however, by the Department of Housing and Urban Development her entire career, working with some of the first computers developed in the United States government. Upon retirement in 1998, Catherine Rose and her sisters, Mary Margaret and Elizabeth Ann, returned home to Ute where they created another home together. Catherine Rose was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ute and generous in her faith, donating to many religious collections. She is survived by many cousins and preceded in death by her parents; one brother Jimmie; and two sisters, Mary Margaret and Elizabeth Ann.
