Obituary for Carol L. Kinney
Mapleton, IA - Carol Kinney, 90, of Mapleton, Iowa died Monday, July 30, 2012 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton. Services will be Friday, August 3, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton with Pastor Brian McNamara officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday, August 2 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. Carol Lee Kinney was born June 15, 1922, at Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Henry Albert and Doris Augusta (Booth) Cook. She grew up in the Mapleton area and graduated from Mapleton High School in 1941. She then attended Wayne State College in Wayne, NE and transferred to Morningside College in Sioux City, IA where she received her teaching certificate. Carol taught country school in Holly Springs, Climbing Hill, Smithland, and Mapleton, Iowa. Carol was united in marriage to Paul Revere Kinney January 5, 1954, in Phoenix, Arizona. Paul and Carol farmed on their farm five miles east of Mapleton. They continued to farm until selling it in 1965 and moving in to Mapleton. Paul passed away July 27, 1999. Carol was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton where she also served with Methodist Women's Society and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and was involved with the Rainbow Girls. Carol is survived by her loving daughter, Paula Kinney of Lincoln, Nebraska. Along with her husband, Carol was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Tom Sawyer.
