Cailey Marie Berndt was born July 16, 1996, in Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of Chad Berndt and Amy Spencer. She grew up at Castana, Iowa and attended school at Maple Valley Anthon - Oto Community School. She was currently a member of the sophomore Class of 2015. Even after moving to Little Sioux, Cailey chose to continue high school at MVAO. She was a smiley bubbly person, always the socializer. She never missed an opportunity to talk! She liked horses and her cowboy boots and was drawn to the happiness she found in children and they responded to her gentle attitude. Cailey loved to drive. She loved dirt bikes and four wheelers but couldn't wait to drive a car. For permit reasons, she had to wait 2 months following her 16th birthday to get her license, but she showed the necessary restraint and finally that day came and she could drive! Those saddened with Cailey's passing but warmed by her memory include her mother, Amy Spencer and her special friend, Hank Crowder of Little Sioux, Iowa; her father, Chad Berndt of Castana, Iowa; her brother, Levi Berndt of Castana, Iowa; her maternal grandmother, Kathy Parr of Castana, Iowa; her step grandfather, Kevin Parr and Pam Stillman of Moorhead, Iowa; her paternal grandmother, Paulette Berndt of Sioux City, Iowa; and her special friends, Victor and Mary Crowder of Moorhead, Iowa; many aunts, uncles and cousins; along with many good friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Lawson Spencer, Jr.
