Obituary for Bernice Willson
Bernice Willson Mapleton, IA - Bernice Willson, 94, of Mapleton, Iowa died Monday, May 26, 2014, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton. The funeral service will be Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, Iowa with Pastor Brian McNamara officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Mapleton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton is in charge of the arrangements. Bernice Minnie Bertha (Bunning) Willson was born April 18, 1920, in Banner, (Woodbury) Iowa. She was the youngest child of John and Sopha Bunning. Raised in the Lawton and Moville areas, she moved to Mapleton in 1941. There she met the love of her life, Donald E. Willson. They were united in marriage on November 25, 1943. To this union they were blessed with a son, Robert. Donald passed away December 5, 2001. Robert passed away April 20, 2011. Bernice was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton and the U.M.W. She is survived by her granddaughters, Jane (Jason) Clevenger and Jodi (Jerry II) Severson; her daughter-in-law, Cindy Willson; great grandsons, Logan Clevenger, Lukas Clevenger and Landon Severson; a great granddaughter, LeAnn Severson, all of Rockford, Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Mary Willson of Nevada, Iowa. Along with her husband and son, she is preceded by her parents and siblings. Bernice's family would like to thank Bill Hagerdon for his help over the years. A BIG thanks to the staff at Maple Heights Nursing Home, especially Lisa, for their caring love and support of Bernice in the years that she resided there.
