Obituary for Bernice E. Hageman
Bernice E. Hageman, age 92, of Charter Oak, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Eventide Lutheran Home of Denison, Iowa.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church of Charter Oak, Iowa. Father Tim Bockelman will officiate; with Committal Services following in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery of Mapleton, Iowa. A visitation will be held one hour prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at St. Boniface Catholic Church of Charter Oak, Iowa. Bernice Elizabeth Hageman, was one of ten children born to Michael and Elizabeth (Zeimen) Schoenherr. She was born on a farm near Mapleton, Iowa on February 5, 1925. Bernice graduated from Mapleton High School and went on to received her teaching certificate in LeMars, Iowa.
Bernice taught in a country school just north of Mapleton, Iowa. On May 31, 1949, Bernice married Walter Hageman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Mapleton, Iowa. To this union six children were born: Michael, Robert, Patricia, Richard, Roger, and Deborah. As a homemaker, Bernice enjoyed raising her children, dancing, crocheting and putting jigsaw puzzles together.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents Michael and Elizabeth Schoenherr; siblings Theresa Schoenherr, Alvy Schoenherr, Paul Schoenherr, Rita Weber, Stella Dietz, and Clara Pewick; and two grandchildren Maryann Ruser and Stacie Collins.
She is survived by her children Michael “Mike” (Marsha) Hageman of Ute, IA, Robert “Bob” Hageman of Charter Oak, IA, Patricia “Pat” (Jerry) Ruser of Holstein, IA, Richard Hageman of Ute, IA, Roger (Kathy) Hageman of Ute, IA and Deborah “Debbie” (Stanley) Deiber of Charter Oak, IA; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Nora Flanigan of Mapleton, IA, Sister Eileen Schoenherr and Sister Constance Schoenherr of Dubuque, IA; extended family and friends.
