Benny John Green was born on May 22, 2026, and passed away in the loving arms of his mother and father on June 25, 2026.

Benny John was an answered prayer who was loved, adored, celebrated, and cherished every day of his short life by everyone who loved him. Benny is the youngest of Derek and Kayla Green’s five children. During his short time with his family, Benny loved the chaos of home life while he stayed snuggled on his mother’s chest. Benny was a champion eater, smiled at his parent’s voices, and always managed to sing in his sleep.

In addition to his devoted parents, Derek and Kayla Green of Ute, IA; Benny is survived by his older siblings: Liam, Finn, Thomas and Francis; grandparents: Frank and Denise McAndrews of Ute, IA, Maureen Heffernan of Dunlap, IA, and Richard Green from Dow City, IA; 9 aunts and uncles: Kellie and Joey VanBeek of Doon, IA, Jessica and Jim Staley of Charter-Oak, IA, John and Melaine McAndrews of Solider, IA, Brian Green of Dunlap, IA, Connor Green of Dunlap, IA, and Molly Malone of Dunlap, IA;18 cousins; great grandparents Kathrine Carlson of Ute, IA, Pat Heffernan of Dunlap, IA and Arlinda Brink of Dow City, IA; and many more loving extended family members, friends and community members.

Benny was welcomed into the loving arms of those who went before him, including his uncle, Aidan Green; his great-grandparents, Joe Carlson, Philip and Pauline McAndrews, and Eileen Heffernan.

Benny’s parents cannot express the depth of their gratitude to the multitude of family, friends, and even complete strangers who formed a mighty army of prayer warriors on his behalf throughout his difficult journey. The parents wish to thank the rescue units, medical staff and the doctors, nurses, and technicians of Omaha Children’s Hospital PICU for their tireless efforts, expert care and loving support.
