Arlis K. (Seuntjens) Powell, age 80, of Danbury, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home of Mapleton, Iowa.
A Private Family Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Danbury, Iowa. Father William McCarthy will officiate. Committal services will follow in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery of Danbury, Iowa.

Arlis K. (Seuntjens) Powell was born on February 5, 1942, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Andrew and Ann (Reimer) Seuntjens. She grew up on the family farm outside of Danbury, Iowa, the oldest of four children. In 1960 she graduated from Danbury Catholic High School and furthered her education by graduating from Stuart’s School of Beauty in Sioux City, Iowa.
Arlis started her career working at a beauty shop in Sterling, Colorado, then moved back to Danbury in 1961 where she opened Arlis’s Beauty Shop. In 1972 she moved to San Diego, California, with her three children. There Arlis met George Powell and they were married in 2002. They lived their lives in San Diego until moving to Maple Heights in Mapleton, Iowa, early in 2022. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in San Diego.
Arlis was an artist who created many paintings using oil on canvas. Loving adventure and traveling, Arlis visited Greece, Turkey, Hawaii, and many other destinations. Arlis was a colorful person, inside and out.
She is survived by her husband George Powell of Mapleton, IA; her children Steve L. (Dawn) Ortner of Danbury, IA, Lori Donner of San Diego, CA and Mark Dixon of Diagonal, IA; two grandchildren; sisters Judy (Paul) Wolterman of Danbury, IA and Jean (Mike) Barry of Danbury, IA; sister-in-law Nancy Seuntjens of Danbury, IA; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andy and Ann Seuntjens; her brother Gary Seuntjens; nieces Marlys Wolterman, Cheryl Mellott, and Julie Burroughs.
