Arline Caroline (Ruchti) Sasges, was born to John Rudolph and Elsabe “Elsie” (Hass) Ruchti on November 26, 1924, at the family farm outside of Mapleton, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Matthew Lutheran Church by Rev. August F. Reuber on May 10, 1925, and later confirmed at St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Mapleton by Pastor Elmer Otte. After attending country school near Mapleton, Arline graduated from Mapleton High School with the class of 1943.

Arline was united in marriage to Delain Sasges on September 5, 1948, in Mapleton at St. Peter’s Evangelical and Reformed Church. They were married for nearly 35 years until Delain’s passing at home on September 10, 1983. To this union a daughter, Linda, was born on February 21, 1964.

Arline and Delain spent their lives in Mapleton, where Aline was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ and the UCC Women’s Fellowship. She was recognized as one of the oldest surviving members of the church at their 100th Anniversary celebration in June, 2019, at the age of 94 years.

Arline went into the housekeeping business, working for various families for many years, retiring at the age of 90. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially coming to West Point, Nebraska, to spend time with her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter. They loved her great cooking, especially her goulash and chocolate chip pan cookies. In her later years she loved spending time watching Wheel of Fortune and doing word search puzzles, where she wouldn’t stop until she found all the words to a puzzle.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Joe Weber of West Point, Nebraska; granddaughter Brenda Weber of Lincoln, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Delain; her parents John and Elsabe Ruchti; and siblings Rudolph Ruchti, Cornelius Ruchti, Walter Ruchti, Merle Ruchti, Carl Ruchti, Frances Ruchti Sonksen and Esther Ruchti Nathlich.
