She first attended school at Danbury and graduated from the eighth grade in 1936 from St. Mary's Catholic School in Mapleton. Arleen went to Sioux City to work as a nanny and just a few years later returned to Mapleton to nanny there. On November 19, 1940, Arleen was united in marriage to Louie Hinrickson at St. Mary;s Catholic Church in Mapleton. The couple first farmed on the Haubrich farm and bought their own farm in 1952 where they worked and raised their family of one son and four daughters. They decided to move to town and build their new home in 1987 and in the process of that adventure, Louie died on August 7, 1987. After her husband's death, Arleen began working at the Mapleton Food Pantry along side her good friend, Susie Maas. In this position she worked tirelessly collecting thousands of dollars for the needy along with food, clothing, and general needs of the home. She did this work from 1989 until 2012 upon her retirement. Arleen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Guild in Mapleton. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Loren Hollister Post #496 and the Royal Neighbors of America. Arleen liked to play bingo, fish and for a time she and her husband owned a camper and enjoyed traveling to Minnesota. In their earlier years, Louie and Arleen loved to travel anywhere in general resulting in many good stories to tell for years. Arleen was a collector focusing on her collections of angels, salt and pepper shakers, bells, and bears, mostly gifted to her by her family. She displayed her extensive collections in handmade glass enclosed cases in the living area of her well manicured home. In her travels collecting for the Food Pantry, she and Susie jokingly enjoyed collecting ink pens from local businesses. It was said that if Arleen taught her children anything, she taught them a love for animals. Her children, grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren were her life and greatest love of all. Those family members left to embrace their memories of Arleen are her five children, Louetta Jochims and her husband, Robert, Sr. of Ida Grove, Iowa, Louie Hinrickson, Jr. and his wife, Alberta, of Mapleton, Iowa, Linda A. Wingert of Battle Creek, Iowa, Lucy Sadler and her husband, Ivan, of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Connie Dirksen and her husband, Raymond, of Danbury, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 22 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and extended family members. Along with her husband, Arleen was preceded in death by her parents; and as the last of the 10 children in her family she was preceded by six sisters, Frances at birth, Devota Smith, Evelyn Uhl, Edna Ruchti, Anna Marie Thul, Joanne Mohrhauser; three brothers, Joe, Jeff , and Carl Mohrhauser; and her "Best Friend" Susie Mass.
