Obituary for Anna Marie Hamman
Anna Marie Hamman was born August 30, 1926, at Hartington, Nebraska, the only daughter of Charles and Cresentia (Dendinger) Nelson. She went to grade school there and in high school moved with her family to Danbury, Iowa where she graduated from St. Patrick's Academy in 1945. After earning her teaching certificate, she taught country school for two years. She then worked in Sioux City at which time she dated Henry Hamman. They were married February 3, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. The couple farmed in the area where they raised their three children. Anna Marie owned and operated Ann's Apparel on Main Street in Mapleton for nearly 20 years. She also worked at Small's Fruit Market and the Mapleton Greenhouse. Anna Marie was a devoted wife especially after Henry suffered a stroke. He passed away April 24, 1995. In September of 1996, Anna Marie moved in to Mapleton. She later met Earl Mandernach who became her companion. Over their 13 year relationship, they enjoyed traveling over the United States and some time spent in Mexico as well as wintering in Arizona. Anna Marie was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, an very dedicated, hands on member of St. Mary's Guild, and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors. She was a very active person who really enjoyed people and visiting with them anywhere anytime. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, cards, and creating crafts. She was known for her habit of sometimes driving a little too fast. Above all, her family was the driving passion in her life. Those survivors left to hold their memories of Anna Marie are her three children, Vickie Merriman and her husband Corky of Sioux City, Iowa, Connie Scheer of Mapleton, Iowa, and Lloyd Hamman and his wife, Linda of Hampton, Iowa; her grandchildren, Jeffery King Merriman (Michelle), David Merriman (Kim), Tom Merriman (Doug), Tony Merriman (Dayelle), Matt Merriman, Amy Nguyen (Tue), Bryan Scheer (Betsy), Travis Hamman (Angie), Sarah Taylor (Jeff), Mel McGurk (Craig), Tracy Schaefer (Dean), and Jenna Krumm; great grandchildren, Ian, Corbin, and Christopher King Merriman, Ryan Merriman, Christine and Shawn Wakefield, Jacob Hanson, Piper Merriman, Caden Scheer, Elexis and Austin Hamman, Landon and Owen Taylor, and Sidney and Carter Schaefer; two sisters-in-law, Marge Nelson of Anthon, Iowa and Joyce Nelson of Spokane, Washington; and her loving companion, Earl Mandernach of Onawa, Iowa; along with many other relatives. Along with her husband, Anna Marie was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Howard and Roger Nelson; and a son-in-law, Daryl Scheer.
