Obituary for Allen L. Lawson
Allen L. Lawson, 54, of Sioux City and formerly of Mapleton, Iowa died following the complications of cancer at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Services will be Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton. Pastor Linda Boggs will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 26 after 5:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. The family is receiving condolences on line at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Allen Lee Lawson was born October 21, 1960, in the former Burgess Hospital in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Albert H. and Deanna J. (Ruchti) Lawson. He grew up in Mapleton and went to school at Maple Valley. He completed his GED on February 8, 1979, at WIT along with training in Automotive Transmissions and Welding. He then enlisted in to the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. He graduated from Southeastern Community College at Keokuk Iowa in May of 1992, certified in Auto Body Repair. On March 16, 1989, Allen married Joyce Nicholson. They had two children, Heather and Jeremy. Allen and Joyce later divorced but maintained family ties. A few years later, Allen met the love of his life, Kim Anderson, who has remained in his life for 20 years. Allen became dad to her two children, Melissa, and Mindy. Allen's primary occupation was working as a welder, He was employed with Sabor Industries requiring training with Canadian Welding Standards. The last five years, he worked at FIMCO in North Sioux City. ξAllen loved Harley Davidson motorcycles. His cycle was his pride and joy! He loved life and the feeling of being free. He and his friends would like to ride their Harleys to Allen's home and enjoy a beer and a cigarette on his picnic table. Even more than that, Allen loved seeing his grandkids, Edward and Morgan, and being called "Papa". Those left to cherish their memories of Allen include his longtime girl friend, Kim Anderson of Sioux City, Iowa; his children, Rosolynn McCord of Waterloo, Iowa, Heather Lawson and her fiancee, Jake Thompson of Maxwell, Iowa, Jeremy Lawson of Dow City, Iowa, Melissa Whitlock and her friend, Terry Orr of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mindy Anderson of Sioux City, Iowa; his grandchildren, Madison McCord, Edward Orr, and Morgan Orr; his father and mother, Al and Deanna Lawson of Mapleton, Iowa; his sister and her husband, Linda and Jeff Hamann of North Sioux City, South Dakota; his brother and his wife, Steven and Mary Lawson of Lawrence, Kansas; nieces and nephews, Christina, Tim, Jr., Josh, Melanee, Amanda, Alex and their families; many cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family members; plus a host of good friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Cornelius and Meta Ruchti; and his paternal grandparents, Alex Lawson and Ferne (Lawson) Larson.
