Alice K. Kluver. 67, of Mapleton, Iowa passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.
Alice Kay Kluver was born April 18, 1948, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Tom and Elsie (Steinbach) Sanford. She grew up in Mapleton and attended St. Marys Catholic School through the eighth grade. She graduated from the Maple Valley High School with the class of 1966. She then worked in Sioux City at various jobs.
On September 9, 1967, Alice was united in marriage to Larry Kluver at St. Marys Catholic Church in Mapleton. The couple made their home in Mapleton. Along with caring for her growing family, Alice served many families from the community in a day care service in her home. She later worked outside the home at jobs including the Mapleton Press, the Mapleton Coast to Coast Store, Griffin Pharmacy/Maier Pharmacy, and Caseys/ BP.
Alice enjoyed attending all her childrens activities as they grew up. She also found relaxation in watching ball games and sports, in general. For many years, she was the leader of all the levels and age groups of the Mapleton Girl Scouts. Alice was a dedicated blood donor and had the rare blood type of O negative. It was documented that she gave 136 donations to the Siouxland Blood Bank for a total of 17 gallons. Thus, her generosity served to save 403 lives! In recent years, Alice was enticed with tracking treasures on E-Bay and the satisfaction she found in selling and trading. Throughout the years, however, her family always came first.
Those family members left to embrace their love for Alice are Larry, her husband of 48 years; her parents, Tom and Elsie Sanford of Mapleton, Iowa; her children, four daughters and one son, Cathy Diedrich and her husband, Eric of Radcliffe, Iowa, Carol Barker and her husband, Len of Sioux City, Iowa, Cheryl Garcia and her husband Ray of Corpus Christi, Texas, Carla Kieler of McCook Lake, South Dakota and boyfriend, Michael Kramper of Homer, Nebraska, and Michael Kluver and Monica King of Mapleton, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, Melinda, Brittany, Andrew, Gunner, Alyssa, Kelsey, Kayla, Brayton, Jameson, Jersey, and Jaylee; three great grandchildren, David, Benjamin, and Austin; two bothers and their wives, Jerry and Rosie Sanford of Sioux City, Iowa and Larry and Tammy Sanford of Bronson, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Sharon Sanford of Les Vegas, Nevada and Roberts special friend, Ruth Hintz of Bosie Idaho; and many other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Tom Sanford.
