Albert H. Lawson, age 80, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2017, at the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ of Mapleton, Iowa. Pastor Linda Boggs will officiate; with Committal Services following in the Kennebec Cemetery of Castana, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Albert Herman Lawson, the son of Alexander and Fern (Hall) Lawson, was born on December 8, 1937, in his family home of Castana, IA. He enlisted into the Army National Guard at the age of 16 and was honorably discharged on November 20, of 1953. On July 21, 1958, Albert was united into marriage to Deanna Jean Ruchti and the couple shared almost 60 happy years of marriage together.
Albert worked as an over the road truck driver for 26 years with Weinrich Truck Line of Hinton, IA. He also drove truck for various construction companies and the United States Postal Service. During his retirement, Albert enjoyed watching westerns and treasured spending time with wife and family.
Albert was preceded in death by his son Allen Lawson; father Alexander Lawson and mother Fern Larson; brother George Lawson; and a sister Carol Larson.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Deanna Lawson of Mapleton, IA; daughter Linda (Jeff) Hamann of North Sioux City, SD; son Steve (Mary) Lawson of Lawrence, KS; 10 grandchildren: Christina (Mike) Anderson, Tim (Jennifer) Sanderson, Jr., Melanee (Travis) Rothermich, Josh (Stephanie) Hamann, Heather (Jake) Thompson, Rosalynn McCord, Jeremy Lawson, Tasha Reed, Amanda (Tyler) Kruzel, and Alexander Lawson; eleven great-grandchildren: Dylan, Braden, Isabelle, Wyatt, Arabella, Greyson, Zachary, Ava, Marlo, Madison, and Eastyn; brother Michael Larson of Charter Oak, IA; and numerous extended family and friends.
