Helen Mildred Weber was born July 11, 1923, in rural Danbury, Iowa to John and Elizabeth (Welte) Uhl. Helen grew up on the family farm and attended country school at Living Springs School until eighth grade. During her high school years, she moved to town and lived with her Aunt Rosie Crilly during the week so she could continue her education. She graduated high school from St. Patrick’s Academy in Danbury. Helen then attended a teacher college in LeMars and taught in the local country schools before eventually becoming a wife and homemaker.

On September 23, 1947, Helen was united in marriage to Leo Weber upon his return from the war. To this union six children were born: Gary, Karen, Lynette, Mark, Patricia and Laurie. Helen was a devoted mother. A large portion of her life was caring for Gary and Karen who were handicapped. Helen and Leo raised their family on the farm in rural Danbury. She was an avid gardener, loved quilting and sewing, enjoyed painting, and was an excellent cook. Helen loved going on camping trips especially while their children were growing up.

On December 8, 1987, Helen and Leo moved to Mapleton into the brand-new home that Helen designed. It was her pride and joy. She was an active member of the rosary society of Danbury and Mapleton. Helen and Leo enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels for 20 years while living in Mapleton.
