Evelyn attend Miller #5 Country School, also known as the Lone Star School. After the country school, she attended St. Joseph's Catholic School, before transfering to Anthon High School, from which she graduated in 1953.

After high school, she moved to Sioux City. There she worked for Swift's Company, breaking and separating eggs.

She married Gerald "Lefty" Grant on April 28, 1954. They made their home in the Castana area, where they raised eight children. While raising her children she worked at Head Start as a cook and drove a school bus for the Maple Valley School District for 21 years. She retired due to health reasons.

After retirement, she faithfully took care of her husband at home, until his passing on December 20, 2001.

Evelyn was a member of the Junior '76ers and Neighborly Pals, while residing in Castana. She enjoyed spending time with family and attending family reunions. She also enjoyed going to the casino to try her luck on the slot machines.

Evelyn moved to Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars in October of 2003. Always the helper, she enjoyed setting the tables for meals, often wanting to get out of bed at 5 in the morning so she could be ready for breakfast, or wanting to get back to the home from family events so she wouldn't miss supper. She will be remembered for always being a jokester with the staff and other residents. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all current and former staff for their years of wonderful care to "Grandma," as she was referred to by many!

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Shirley (Jim) Kinney of Le Mars, Harold "Fudd" Grant of Ida Grove, Melvin "Barney" Grant of Castana, John (SueLynn) Grant of Battle Creek, Shelia Grant of Jacksonville, FL., and William "Billy" Grant of Sentinel, OK.
